Hi,

I just installed PT3 (with postgresql 8.2 already on my computer) and converted my PT2 databse. Everything worked fine. Then I used the tips described under "postgresql tuning" and harddrive tuning", restarted my computer and got the error:

"Unable to login to database (PT3_2008_09_18_171017). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host 'localhost'".

I found out that I entered "shared_buffers = 1500work_memMB" and corrected it. Then I redid all other steps and searched the forums and did what I found on this topic (like restarting the service, I couldnt find the postmaster.pid though, even with hidden folders on) - but still it doesnt work. I am currently in the process of un-/reinstalling PT3+postgresql 8.3, but am wondering if there might be an easier solution? I mean it worked fine in the beginning after all...

Did you try a re-boot?
If you've started re-installing, there's nothing we can do now..
When you re-install - follow these instructions (but you should be able to use PT3 with postgres installer rather than installing postgres manually): Total uninstall/reinstall of pt3

Note: if you are still using PT2 and PAH, the cache won't work in PAH with 8.3, but (link:) It is possible to use PT2 with postgres 8.3.

I rebooted a few times of course. U did not start reinstalling yet, as I had to somehow secure my db first. What could I do at this point?

Let's try to find out what's preventing postgres from starting.
Try to start it again, then select the last few files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log (they're dated so just pick the recent ones), right-click and choose 'Send To Compressed/zipped Folder', then attach the zip file to a ticket on the Support system, and link to this thread in the reference field of the ticket so that we can investigate.
