Near the end of installation i get this error message.

Service 'PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3 (pgsql-8.3) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Are you using Vista?
Are you running PT3 as Administrator? Right click the shortcut and select 'Run As Administrator'. This is different to being logged in as an Administrator.

I'm running xp. also this is near the end of installation for postgresql not pt3. It happens after I do the last step of installation for postresql here http://www.pokertracker.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=8047

What, the password creation bit?
Exactly what have you just done?

Is there a reason you are installing postgres manually?
On XP, the PT3 with postgres installer should work fine.

OK I uninstalled everything properly and tried the auto installation of postresql with pt3. I ran it as an administrator and I got the same error message towards the end of installation.

ok i went to the event viewer to see if could catch anything. before i get the error message this happens

lock file "postmaster.pid" already exists
2008-09-22 17:41:28 GMT HINT: Is another postmaster (PID 1924) running in data directory "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.3/data"?

Delete that postmaster.pid file. It is a lock file that is created when postgres is running - sometimes it can get left behind and this will prevent it from running [again].

I've tried deleting postmaster.pid and trying installing fresh after un installing and I still get the same error message.

Please select the last few files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log (they're dated so just pick the recent ones), right-click and choose 'Send To Compressed/zipped Folder', then attach the zip file to a ticket on the Support system, and link to this thread in the reference field of the ticket so that we can investigate.
