Hello,

Recently I got the following problem - I cannot import hands from my database or access my database for that matter. I keep getting the following message:
Unable to begin import process. Reason: Unable to login to database (PT3 DB). Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

I tried every possible solution suggested in other topics here and nothing works - uninstalling postgres, deleting the *.pid file, trying to manually start postgres...

I might try completely reinstalling both PT3 and postgres, but I cannot backup/export my current database as I keep getting the same message as above:

When you uninstalled postgres, did you do a full uninstall, including the 'net user postgres /delete' part?
You don't need to uninstall PT3 - postgres is completely independent.

I have a copy of my postgres folder from before a harddisk failure or before I uninstalled postgres - how do I reconnect to my databases?
1.) Save your "data" folder. You can find it in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3.
2.) Uninstall postgresql completely and delete everything under C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3. EXCEPT the data folder.
3.) Install PostgreSQL again, but untick "Initialize Database cluster".
4.) click on "connect" again and it should work

Yep, completely uninstalled it. Didn't work. Don't know what else to try

Did you delete the "data" folder? If you did that then you'll need to fully re-install using the 'total re-install' link and then re-import your hands from the original hand history files.
If not, try the steps in the quote.

Hello again and thank you for the reply. Yes, I deleted the "data" folder and I fully re-installed postgres (haven't reinstalled PT3). Still gives me the same message as before "unable to login to database". Regarding what you are suggesting, how do I re-import hte hands from the original hand history files?

Do you have the postgres service running OK now, after you reinstalled it?
If you look at Task Manager -> Processes; do you see postgres processes?

If not, try Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Start Service.
Does that help?

If not, then you don't have postgres installed properly.
Follow the uninstall steps in this post very carefully - they all have to be done properly, or it won't work.
Total uninstall/reinstall of pt3
(only for postgres - you don't need to touch PT3.)

You need to get postgres running first, but once you have; you can use Manual Import in PT3 to import everything in your 'processed' folder to import all your old hand history files, assuming you kept them.

Thank you again for trying to help. Followed the steps and I am pretty sure I uninstalled completely postges (uninstalling first, manually deleting the postgres folder and then doing the DOS command...) I am pretty sure I did it correctly but after reinstalling I am still not able to start Postgres correctly. I do the Start-Programs-Postgres-Start database but it does not seem to be running and I still get the same error when trying to import i PT3. Any other suggestions? I have no idea how to solve this one! One other thing, the links for downloading Postgres do not work so I reinstalled it using the file postgresql-8.3 installer that comes with the Poker Tracker 3 with PSQL bundle...

That way of installing is fine.

Something doesn't like you starting postgres - you could try disabling your firewall and/or anti-virus software temporarily and see if that helps.

Please select the last few files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log (they're dated so just pick the recent ones), right-click and choose 'Send To Compressed/zipped Folder', then attach the zip file to a ticket on the Support system, and link to this thread in the reference field of the ticket so that we can investigate.

Disabling the firewall did not help nor did the complete uninstall of postgresql (nor a combination of the two). Nothing has worked so far...

Neither can I select the last few files from C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\pg_log as after the clean re/installation I don't have a \data folder any more.

Any other suggestion? I guess I am stuck with a PT3 program, which I cannot use

NEW DEVELOPMENT!

I finally managed to properly reinstall postgeresgq and to start it. I now see it running under task manager under processes as postgres.exe...

However, now when I try importing I get the following message: Unable to begin import process. Reason: Unable to login to database (PT3 DB). Reason: FATAL: database "PT3 DB" does not exist

Suggestions how to fix that one. In the postgresql/8.3/data folder I found postmaster.pid and deleted it, then restarted but the message above keeps on popping up...
