Instillation Issue

Postby PokerBot » Wed Nov 05, 2008 6:13 pm

Following the advice to improve performance i attempted to reinstall SQL to get the stack builder feature but something went wrong. I used system restore as i was just going to forget about it but when i used it poker tracker did not work and neither did sql, even though the restore point i selected it was working fine.

Strangely i don't actually not if it is installed, it is there in the "add or remove programs" list but i cannot access, there are no SQL services listed in the task manager, the program short cuts i.e start...programs isn't there, but i may have delted these manually after the attempted uninstall. When i open PT it says in the list of players area "unable to log in into database... reason could not connect to server... is the server running on the local host". I suspect that this issue can be resolved easily when i reinstall SQL but i cannot do this. When i try to uninstall, so that i can have a clean copy installed it says "the resource you are looking for is not available" it is looking for a file called "postgressql 8.3-int.msi" When i locate the file it says this is not a valid instillation package for the product sql 8.3. I tried to download the older version instillation files ie 8.3 not 8.5, which was the one i download before but the same message appears

I had this issue with some other programs and was able to reinstall them by downloading a new instillation pack but it wont let me overrise the old sql databse.

please advise me on what i should do

Thanks

There is nothing wrong with PT so i should not have to do anything with that, the issue is only with SQL so how can i totally uninstall JUST SQL?

Also i have all my hands in the database and only backed up a while back and i do not have any hands in the processed folder

Also note that i am running windows XP service pack three

thanks

Hi, i managed to solve it myself. If anyone else has this issue the easy way to do it is on the add or remove program list click on the postgres sql info (blue writing) then click repair, then select the instillation file for the exact version that you had installed, no everything is working straight away.

One question though; the database backup that i create with the compress option, will they work with different versions of SQL or would i have to back it up to the exact version?

Thanks

You should be able to restore that sort of backup to any version of PostgreSQL 8.x
