Just Reformatted windows/Reinstall PT3 .. Massive Lag?

Postby Madmaniac21 » Sat Nov 29, 2008 4:43 pm

So the past couple days I've been having massive lag problems with my computer (not sure why) so I decided to reformat my harddrive. Saved everything to an external I needed, moved it back on, etc.

I reinstall PT3, it asks to reinstalling Postgre, so I say ok. It does that, I go to start up PT3 and Bam, the lag returns. I open up my task manager and see that my CPU usage is 90-100%, and appears to be constantly that. I also notice that there are 5(?) seperate postgre.exe running.

My laptop has 70GB free HD space, Intel Core 2 T7200 @ 2.0 GHz, 2 GB Ram. What gives? Pokertracker making my computer unusable would be some bad.

EDIT: Just uninstalled/deleted PT3 and Postgre and now my comp is back to its lightning fast speed. Thoughts?

Have you run Housekeeping recently to make sure your cache is up to date?
Have you tried the different 'HUD Performance Level' settings on the HUD Options tab?

a) I hadn't run housekeeping on my cache before I reformatted/installed; but if I haven't moved my database from my external onto my now blank harddrive, this shouldn't cause problems should it?
b) The lag happened with both PT3 running and immediately upon start up before having PT3 open; in both cases however I wasn't using FTP, so the HUD should not have even been running.

I will read through these posts, but I don't see how I would have to "update" anything if I am just starting from scratch reinstalling the software/just reformatted my comp.

EDIT: White, at this point in time I am VERY reluctant to reinstall PT3/Postgre as I literally cannot do anything with them on my computer. Do I really have to just reinstall them and try to debug them (every action on my desktop takes several minutes when I had them installed) even though they are the brand new versions/no databases to look through/brand new clean HD?

If you see lag before you run PT3, then it's not PT3 that's causing it.
Have a look at Task Manager -> Processes and see what is using the processor.

Those performance tuning links are to improve on the postgres defaults which are apparently not optimal, but if you have the slowness before running PT3, then they won't help.
