PokerTracker PostgreSQL over the Internet.

Has anyone tried this before? If so, how's the speed?
I travel a ton and carry a lot of different machiens and play on different desktops (two homes) so I would really love a central database that I could access anywhere but I am very reluctant to even migrate my PT databases (they are VERY VERY big) before I get some idea on how viable this is.

I don't know for sure but I suspect this would be very slow - there is a LOT of database access in PT3 and if every connection has to go over the internet I think it will be very slow.

I suspected as much I was just hoping somebody has tried it.
I think I'm gonna give it a shot and see what happens.

Why not rdp/vnc/logmein etc... into a machine at home that has your pt and playing sites installed.

Let us know how this works in case someone else asks later.

Then the cards would be delay, which would be worse for me since I play 12 tables.
Also I would prefer a more elegant solution.

I definitely will when I get home...
Yeap, like mentoned, I am not home as much as I'd like to be.
An additional reason I want to try this is my databases are very very large and I suspect having a dedicated high powered machine running PostgreSQL instead of running them on my laptop might compensate for some of the internet lag. Not very likely, but I am hopeful.

It's possible, I just don't know of any tests to say for sure.
I'd also expect you'd see better performance (and certainly more stability) if you're using some form of unix based operating system (OS X, linux) for your database server, but I doubt that will make any significant difference for the test you're looking at.

It is quite a bit slower, but surprisingly, not that bad.
I tried it from 4 locations with PTO (not using PT3, since I play more Omaha and I want to use the same HUD for all the games). The "test" I did was changing the preferences tab to load my session notes since 01/01/2008 from 12/01/2008.
Localhost: 7 seconds
LAN: 12~13 seconds
Neighbor's WLAN (also on Cablevision): (87ms ping) ~25 seconds.
GF's home (on Verizon DSL) (~180 ping) ~30 seconds.
It's actually pretty slow, but considering the size of my databases it's actually not bad at all. (even locally if I tried to load my entire database it takes over 20 minutes).
With thiss kind of numbers basically my only worry is accidentally querying too much data and hanging PT.

If you test it out with PT3 also at some point, let me know how those tests run. In the meantime, enjoy using PTO.
