How long time does cluster normaly take for 1.000.000 hands? (only cluster)

It varies depending on your computer's speed and your computer's hard drive type and speed.

I'd expect for a normal computer with a normal hard drive, using Beta 24, somewhere in the range of 30 - 45 minutes. On a laptop it'll likely take longer, though.

Waiting 3½ hours so far on my laptop

Press ctrl+alt+del and click Task Manager, go to the processes tab and see: is the PostgreSQL process using a chunk of CPU? If it is, it's still running, please be patient.

As I said it can vary, if you have a slightly older laptop with a 4200RPM hard drive, it's going to go a lot slower than a new desktop with a quad core processor and a 10k rpm hard drive. Unfortunately there isn't a way to get a current progress meter from PostgreSQL, but you can make sure it's still doing something by checking as I explained above.

just checked and there are 9 postgre.exe using a lot of cpu. My laptop is kind of old, but hope that with help from Pokertracker I can buy a new one

btw would it be faster to do the housekeeping incl. cluster on another computer and then import the database on my laptop?

If it's using a lot of CPU it's really still working hard, just be patient.

If your hard drive is near full that can make the cluster take a whole lot longer, also.

You could cluster elsewhere and backup and restore the database to your laptop. But if your other computer is on the local network and you keep it on most of the time it might be easier just to set the database up on that machine entirely. See this post for information on how to make a database on one machine available to another machine on the same local network.

My hard drive has 10GB left.

Its still clustering (6 hours + ) but the cpu is working with postgre.exe sow thats fine.

The issue is the next 1.000.000 hands that I already have importet. If I import them on a different computer and make the housekeeping on that, will it conflict with the same hands I already has on my playing computer (the laptop) after moving the database?

That's very close to the minimum you'd need to cluster a database with 1M hands and is likely the reason things are taking so long.

If you create a new database elsewhere you can connect both to it and to your local database at the same time and they won't conflict with one another.

After 10 hours of waiting I have made 10GB extra free, sow the hard drive has 20 GB free. Should I cancel the clustering and start over?

I been looking ind my files, and the biggest item is the PostgreSQL ->8.2 -> data -> base with > 40 GB. Is that normal?
