Hi,

Just wondering if anybody could give me some advice how to upgrade from 8.4 Beta to 8.4 Final properly, and that I don't lose my data.

Any help much appreciated.

Aren't there instructions with the download?
I would have thought you would just stop the service then run the installer, but there should be details available on the download page.

To be safe, make a backup of your database(s) before installing.

Well the problem is that the upgrade puts all final software in a different directory to the beta. So I guess I need to move the data across, but I was wondering if postgres provided some sort of auto upgrade or instructions that I was missing.

Ah, I see. I haven't really tested 8.4 much yet, other than making sure it works.
Kraada was going to do some testing so he may know more about this.
As long as you make a backup of your databases before upgrading you should be able to restore them even if they're not copied across automatically.

There is a file called INSTALL in the download - have a look through that.

The other option is just to tell it to install to the same folder as your existing installation like you would for any other upgrade.
