Yet another "Cannot Connect"

Due to a virus, I was forced to re-install my OS (XP), and all my applications. Before I did I followed instructions I found here to backup my database, and (for extra security) my hand history. After reloading the OS, I installed PT3 without a problem, but it didn't install Postgre. So I followed the instructions and installed Postgre 8.4, but now don't know what I have to do to tell PT3 where the database is.

In short:

- How do I connect the new Postgre to PT3?
- How do I restore the database from where I backed it up?

Note - postgres is running, it lists 5 copies in the Task Manager.

Thanks

When you installed PT3 did you use the "Full" installer? That should have set postgres up for you, but the "upgrade" installer doesn't.

When you run PT3, is it connecting to postgres? If it can't connect automatically it likely asks you for server, username and password information.
If you set these up manually you should know what they are, but the username should be 'postgres' (our default password is 'dbpass' but of course you may have set that to something else).

To restore your database please follow the steps in the Database / Postgres FAQ using PGAdmin, which also explains how to connect PT3 to your restored database.

If you still have trouble connecting this guide should sort out your postgres setup: How to reinstall Postgres.
