PostGres + F-Secure problems

I'm having the same problems of getting PokerTracker to open under F-Secure as others, but I'm also experiencing oddities with PostGres so I thought I'd better document them here.

The problem is characterized by the Start Service Command Prompt script running more or less forever with a never ending ellipsis being trailed off until I get fed up and terminate the command prompt window. Oddly, this does not seem to prevent the application from being started. I can access my tables and dbs via pgAdmin with no problem. Stop Service also seems to work fine. I would guess the Start Service command is awaiting info from the PostGres service that the Firewall is stopping.

The problem appeared sometime in the last week, coinciding with an update in F-Secure. I may have also upgraded PokerTracker in the same time period, definitely recently. PokerTracker is also failing to load as documented in the threads in the Bugs forum. Is it possible that the PostGres installation was updated at the same time as PT was?

I am running Windows XP Pro SP 3 with F-Secure Internet Security 2009 on a Franken-PC of home manufacture.

(I have also had a long standing problem of the PostGres service not running correctly on startup and not actually being off either. I'ved had to stop and restart the thing to get it going correctly. I always wrote this off as an irritation.)

Hope this gives you all some insight, if so please let me know!

Without digging back through your other threads - there are known problems with F-Secure preventing postgres running correctly, even if you configure it to allow full access to postgres, so you will need to disable it temporarily while you start up, or consider using a different firewall.

Oh, I have no old threads. I looked at your old threads and didn't see my exact symptoms, so I thought I'd post them here in the hopes that some more powerful mind would hae the same problem with slightly different symptoms and be able to say, "Aha! I see the common thread!"

Sorry, I thought I'd seen your name elsewhere. It looks like you're aware of the problem with F-Secure now anyway - if you disable it have you got PT3 running OK?
