Reloading PostgresSQL pain

Well, I am not sure, but I think I screwed up.
I can not remember what the user name I used is, and the port is already used by the data base I already set up, I think. I do not want to use a different port # because I am not that good with computers and do not want to really screw it up. So, I want to know how to find out what user name I used before, or set up a new data base on the same port #, or I guess how to use a different port #. Sorry for the newbie question, I have been searching for an answer to my question, but it seems few have screwed this up the same way I have.
Thank you in advance for any help on the subject.
