Error on install of PostgreSQL

Hello just downloaded PT3. This is what it reads when I install PostgreSQL

Error
Failed to run initdb: 1!
Please see the logfile in 'C:\Program
Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\tmp\initdb.log'.
Note! You must read/copy this logfile before you click OK,
or it will be automaticall removed

Please help me

Have you installed PostgreSQL on this machine before?

Is this a Vista machine? If so, please make sure you have UAC disabled. If that does not fix the issue for you, please create a support ticket and we'll walk you through the installation process.

i have the same problem and am using vista

Error

its now giving the error : failed to create temporary directory

Exactly what are you tring to do?
Is this installing postgres for the first time, or are you upgrading?
Did you uninstall first?
What version are you trying to install now?

thkyou for the prompt reply

i actually downloaded pokertracker for the first time and first time i got the error mentioned in the first post.....
then i did exactly what is in the link you gave and i the got the error i mentioned about the temp folder...this is the version in the file 8.3
then i uninstalled again doing the exact same thing and i downloaded the latest version (8.4) of postgres and that also would not install giving the error : specified password is incorrect...i'm using windos vista and have service pack 1 installed
