can i save my postgres database?

Postby medion1804 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 6:12 pm

hello dear support,

yesterday i installed windows 7 and by this i initially formatted the systempartition (vista).

i made the mistake, that i didn´t saved my database with the database mangment of pt3 ... because i´m a beginner in using pt3 i didn´t know about this option (database managment)

what i did is copying the folder 16403 , because this was the largest folder in the postgreSQL folder^^

is there a possibility to restore my pt3 database by using this folder 16403?

If you copied the entire PostgreSQL\Data folder then it should be possible to recover your database - see this guide for how to connect to an existing Data folder.
How to reinstall PostgreSQL

However, assuming you still have your hand history files (probably in the PokerTracker 3\Processed folder) then you will proabably find that the easiest thing to do is create a new database and re-import your hands.

thnaks for ur advice :)

and of course i have hand histories in the processed folder of pt3, but these hand histories aren´t the entire handhistories because of reinstalling pt3 3 months ago ...

and unfortunately i didn´t copied the entire PostgreSQL\Data folder, but only the folder 16403

is there nevertheless a possibility to restore my data?

I very much doubt it - PostgreSQL stores databases across multiple files and folders.
When you re-installed PT3, did you delete the 'Processed' folder? That shouldn't be deleted automatically, so all your files should still be there.
It is always a good idea to keep a backup of your important documents and files, and PT3 is no exception.
