Hi,
Trying to install postgresql 8.4 because my computer crashed and had to reinstall windows. I uninstalled my previous postgresql following the guideslines here: http://www.pokertracker.com/products/PT ... greSQL.pdf

I followed that in order to get to the download page for the newest version of postgresql and found that there is now a 1 click download link in which i downloaded: http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/pgdownload.do

After downloading this I try to run the exe and right after the little "Postgresql the worlds most advanced open source daabase" image comes up I get and ERROR that says: "A service (postgresql-8.4) already exists. Please specify another name." I don't know why it is saying this as I have already followed the instructions to remove my previous database.

Would really appreciate some help getting this working... im not a computer guy, sorry.

Just wanted to add that I am running windows XP home edition....

Were you able to follow ALL the uninstall steps successfully? Did you get any errors uninstalling?
Try going through the uninstall steps again, but if you still can't get it to install after that then you can schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.

I tried uninstalling multiple times and never got any error messages. After the uninstall I did eventually venture over to the services window (control panel>Administrative Tools>Services) and there is still a postgresql 8.4 in the list.... It doesn't give me the option to delete it though so I don't know how to get rid of it.

I sent a message using that service you suggested but if you could help given this new info that would be awesome.

OK - the remote session is probably the easiest way to sort it out, then.

I had the same problem after deinstalling v8.4 and a later re-install.
The origin of the problem was that I deinstalled 8.4 without stopping the service first.
I solved the problem finally by deleting all postgres 8.4 entries in the registry.
After doing that and a reboot the service was not running any more and I could install 8.4.
