pt3 on portable disk drive?

Hi
i have installed pt3, POSTGRESQL and pt stud in a portable hard disk that i used with my laptop. But my laptop is out of order now...
is it possible to run pt3 or pts right from my hard disk in another pc without losin my database?
(I didnt had backin up my database...)

Is the portable hard drive still intact? If PostgreSQL was installed there directly, you should be able to recover that database. You'll still need to run an install of PostgreSQL while connected to your other computer though so that the service user and service get created. But just running the installer and pointing it at the same directory should work just fine.

any version of it or absolutelly 8.3 ?
you mean to reinstall it to the same directory?

What version did you install on the external hard drive? You'll need to install the same major version number. And yes to the same directory - it'll still set up what needs to be set up to actually run the service on your machine regardless of to what location things are installed.
