What is PostgreSQL

What is this software? Downloaded pokertracker3 and said i needed to download this, clicked on download and realised it was going to take quite a while to download, and the file was quite large... my computer is fairly new and i dont want to screw it up, so is this software fairly safe?

PostgreSQL is an open source database server which PokerTracker 3 uses to store your information. Yes, it is completely safe. PostgreSQL is widely accepted software and one of, if not the best, open source databases available.
