password for postgres

windows 7 home premium.
Attempting to install postgresql9.0.4 windows_x64

I have had postgresql installed before or have tried to install it. I have uninstalled deleted folders with postgresql and tried the: net user postgres/delete which says NET USER
[contraseƱa : *] [opciones]] [/DOMAIN]
etc. etc.
When installing it asks for a password, I have tried the usual dbpass etc. but that does not work. I saw that to avoid this I could enter computer administration and delete the postgresql in users, but the users do not appear. This seems to be on home premium that they do not appear.

So now I need some help. Any suggestions on how to get this installed and get around the password problem?

Ok, managed to change the password with command prompt, but now when installing pt3 in the configure postgreSQL Server it is unable to connect.

That password is not the same as the database password - try using postgrespass and see if it works. If it doesn't, try following this tutorial as that will likely get things working for you.

The password does not work and the tutorial is for 8.3 and 8.4, I have installed 9.0.
I have followed the firewall guide and this does not help either.

Other suggestions?

There is an identical file in a similar location in 9.0 and once you change it in the same way it will still fix the problem when you restart PostgreSQL.

Not on my computer. In the data folder there are no files and I cannot find a pg_hba.conf file anywhere in the 9.0 folder.

If there are no files in the 9.0 folder then it is not installed correctly. Please try uninstalling and reinstalling it - the guides in the Documentation are for 8.3 or 8.4 but the process is basically the same.
If you still have problems please create a Support ticket and one of our support technicians will work with you to get things working.

In the data folder there are no files. There are plenty of files in the 9.0 folder

I uninstalled and installed again. When the installation finishes it says: Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly. The database cluster initialisation failed.
