Please review PostgreSQL conf file

Hi,

I reinstalled PT 3.11.5 with PostgreSQL 9.0.4. My machine is W7 64 bit with 4GB mainmemory. WD Velociraptor 150GB and AMD Phenom 550 unlocked to 4 cores with 3.1k MHz running.

I have modified the config file from various ressources to the best "knowledge" for my machine. However I would like you pros to look over it, maybe I have overdone a setting or got something totally wrong.

I don't have issues running PT though, but since most of the applied settings are merely "copy&paste", would be great if someone could take a look for it being ok (or something better).

Thank you very much.

Robert

# -----------------------------
# PostgreSQL configuration file
# -----------------------------
#
# This file consists of lines of the form:
#
#   name = value
#
# (The "=" is optional.)  Whitespace may be used.  Comments are introduced with
# "#" anywhere on a line.  The complete list of parameter names and allowed
# values can be found in the PostgreSQL documentation.
#
# The commented-out settings shown in this file represent the default values.
# Re-commenting a setting is NOT sufficient to revert it to the default value;
# you need to reload the server.
#
# This file is read on server startup and when the server receives a SIGHUP
# signal.  If you edit the file on a running system, you have to SIGHUP the
# server for the changes to take effect, or use "pg_ctl reload".  Some
# parameters, which are marked below, require a server shutdown and restart to
# take effect.
#
# Any parameter can also be given as a command-line option to the server, e.g.,
# "postgres -c log_connections=on".  Some parameters can be changed at run time
# with the "SET" SQL command.
#
# Memory units:  kB = kilobytes        Time units:  ms  = milliseconds

That all looks fine. Are you experiencing any performance problems with the database in question?

Not any that I can put my finger on, but since I am no database wiz and just merely used several ressource to "spice up" the config file, I was worried I might have overdone it at some point or some settings would be conflicting maybe sorts of. Copy&paste is fast done, but doesn't replace the professionals :)

True, but one thing with databases is that they perform very differently on slightly different hardware. Feel free to tinker with it to see if you get better performance changing things a little in either direction. If you overdo it too much you'll see things get quite a bit worse.
