HELP! Disk crash

Postby illerpiller » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:39 am

Hi, my disk drive, where I had PokerTracker 3, died completely. The drive that had PostgreSQL survived. I have now reinstalled win 7 on a third drive and installed PT4 beta there.

Additional info (no idea if its relevant):
Old PT3 PostgreSQL version: 8.3
New PT4 PostgreSQL version: 8.3
Have a directory PostgreSQL\8.3\data\base\16403 that is huge (7.61 GB) on my old drive.
This directory has a "date modified" pretty close to the date when my disk died.
I created a new PT4 database.
Ran Win 7 on both disks.

Im so scared I just wanna shut down the computer and hide under my covers until my db comes back to me.
Also, Im an idiot for only having a 2 year old backup of the database.

Can I save my PT3 database from the remnants of the PostgreSQL directory?!?!!?!?! :?

How did you put PostgreSQL on the spare disk? Did you use a tablespace or did you install PostgreSQL to that disk directly?

On my new disk I installed PostgreSQL when PT4 installation asked me to.
On the old disk I really dont remember how I installed it.

I have no reason to believe that I used a tablespace though since I dont even know what that is. Is there any way to check?

In that PostgreSQL data directory you still have, do you have other folders like pg_log, pg_xlog, pg_clog, and others, or just the base folder?

Try reinstalling PostgreSQL to that directory then - if you're using the same major version (8.3) it should still be able to figure out all of the data.

Does that mean that I should uninstall the PostgreSQL that Poker Tracker 4 installed today?
What happens if the install fails, do I blow my only chance to get the db back?

Also, i dont know how this works..
If it all works out, how will I find the pokertracker3 database file that I then import to poker tracker 4?

Uninstall the PostgreSQL that was just installed - by default, that won't actually delete your database that you just created (that's how the PostgreSQL uninstaller works, it leaves data directories around). Then just try reinstalling manually in the location on the other drive. Assuming it works fine when you open PT4 (and/or PT3, they work the same), you'll need to find the databases again. In PT4 it will prompt you since it was using a database that no longer exists - but you can get to it via the Database Management window. All you need to do is click New, then the blue Browse Databases link. Choose a database, click OK, give it a name and click Connect. Repeat for as many databases as needed.

Ok, I uninstalled the postgresql that PT4 installed.
I then tried to install "postgresql-8.3.19-1-windows.exe" but got the error message: "The existing data directory (Date/time setting: floating-point numbers) is not compatible with this server (Date/time setting: 64-bit intergers)."

I then downloaded "Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe" (from some HM2 page i believe). And when I install I choose my old directory (the 7.61GB one) to install postgreSQL to. Everything seems to be working well with the installation process until it prompts me for a password. I tried svcPASS83 and dbpass and in both cases i get the same result; an error message "Sorry, could not install PostgreSQL", I dont know if this is related to the password prompt but it happens pretty much immediately after I hit Enter.
The last entries in the installation output are:

    postgresql error status: 0
    postgresql status: 1
    starting postgresql-8.3
    postgresql error status: 0
    postgresql status: 4
    Execute: "F:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.3\bin\createlang.exe" -U postgres p...
    installdir F:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.3
    Execute: "F:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.3\PG_INSTALLER\PsqlTestClient.exe"
    testclient return status: 4
    testclient return from file: 4

I tried to open PT4 after this and it wants me to "Select Default Database", i click "New"->"Browse Databases" and get "No PokerTracker 4 databases found".

Whats wrong?
