I have a problem with postgres.exe.
When I boot windows, a postgres.exe DOS command window appears on my desktop.
How can I make postgres run in the background, without this window appearing everytime when I boot my computer?
Because now I have to quit postgres first, and then make it run again in the background by starting PoketTracker.

That shouldn't be happening - how did you install PostgreSQL?

Try updating first to the most recent version (8.3.19) and see if that helps any.

Thanks, but after upgrading and a reboot I still get the black DOS window on my desktop. :(

What OS are you running? Did you manually configure anything to run on startup?

Windows XP Professional

No, I didn't change anything manually.

But I had a lot of difficulties before PostgreSQL ran properly.
First couldn't connect to database, then password was wrong, so after a lot of hassle I was glad that at least I had PokerTracker running.
I think I deleted the "postgres" user also in Windows' local users, maybe that has anything to do with it.
But I just checked and a new local user called postgres has been made again by the software.

There needs to be a Windows user called postgres in order for things to work properly.

Could you post a screenshot of this DOS window? The text might be helpful in figuring out why it's appearing.
