Dealing with McAfee Firewall...

Dear PT3 Forum,

I recently downloaded PT3. Unfortunately, I am unable to start because I cannot configure the PostgreSQL settings on my computer. I have McAfee internet security, and I followed the instructions from the website with regards to allowing certain programs full access. I still cannot configure.

Also, I seem to already have PostgreSQL installed on my computer, even though I have never downloaded PT before. Is this okay? Should I install PostgreSQL again and create a new database?

I know this is pretty vague, but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance for help.

As long as you have PostgreSQL 8.3 or newer it will work with PT3 (though we don't recommend 9.1 at this point in time, as it may be prone to crashing). Is your pre-existing PostgreSQL server running successfully or not?

I am very new to using a database, so please forgive my lack of knowledge/exp. to start with. Due to the problems associated with configuration setting when I try to run PT3, would you advise I head to http://www.postgresql.org/ and download a version, 8.3 or newer. Will this resolve the issue? If I do this, will I still encounter problems with my McAfee internet software?

Also, I do not think my pre-existing PostgreSQL is working successfully. Should I uninstall and install new?

If you haven't got any important data in your PostgreSQL databases yet then you can certainly uninstall and start again fresh, but that is unlikely to be the problem. If you want to install PostgreSQL yourself we currently recommend v9.0 (9.1 is still pretty new and isn't yet supported).
Be sure to follow the guide to fully uninstall PostgreSQL before you reinstall or it won't work - Documentation.

You'll still need to configure McAfee regardless of the PostgreSQL version.

If you're just getting started with PokerTracker you should really go for PT4 - PT3 is no longer on sale and all new development will be for PT4, which is much more advanced and easy to use.
