Postby zaphodbeeblbrox » Wed May 14, 2008 11:06 am

error message "failed to run initdb: 1! please see the logfile in 'c:\programfiles\postgreSQL\8.3tempinitdb.log

that logfile says" initdb: directory "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.3/data" exists but is not empty
If you want to create a new database system, either remove or empty
the directory "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.3/data" or run initdb
with an argument other than "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.3/data".
I just purchased this computer yesterday with a fresh install of windows XP
Please help

I assume that you are running Windows XP?

Make sure that your Secondary Logon service is started (and starts up automatically). Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services

Open 'My Computer' and browse to your program files directory and manually delete the main PostgreSQL folder which will resolve the above error.
