Problem when installing Postgre SQL

Postby Harrold » Thu Jan 31, 2008 10:44 pm

PT3 installs fine, but after that the Postgre has problems,

Error 1 is followed by Error 2 shortly after.... The computer is new, it's running XP, as administrator etc etc.

Go Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services.

Scroll down the list of services and find the one named "Secondary Logon". Double click it.

Click "Start" and change the Startup Type to "Automatic". Apply->OK.

Reinstall.

It sounds like the Startup Type is "Disabled". Change it to "Automatic" then click "Apply". You should now be able to start it.

this isn't the problem,

what is the next plan of action?

When you get the failed to run initdb message, can you please post the contents of the log file it mentions (prior to pressing OK)?

The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user "postgres".
This user must also own the server process.

The database cluster will be initialized with locale C.

initdb: directory "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.2/data" exists but is not empty
If you want to create a new database system, either remove or empty
the directory "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.2/data" or run initdb
with an argument other than "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.2/data".

Did you have PostgreSQL previously installed? It looks like your database cluster has already been created therefore you cannot run initdb again...

What is displayed when you startup PT3? Is it still trying to install PostgreSQL or are you getting the 2nd message you posted in your OP.

You are either stuck mid-way through an installation or PostgreSQL has already been installed...

If you go Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services, do you see "PostgreSQL Database Server" listed in your list of services?
