Can I uninstall PostgreSQL 8.2 and reinstall pt2 with 8.3?

Postby Twentytwo » Mon Jun 02, 2008 4:31 am

My PostgreSQL DB is now at 41GB and is raping my HD. I have about 1.7 million hands total, including mined and myself. I'm wondering if I export my hands to a file through PT2, uninstall PostgreSQL 8.2, and reinstall and import PT3 with PostgreSQL 8.3 if this will work or even makes sense. I'm hoping maybe a new version will compact the size of my DB somehow, and just in general I'd like to have the most up to date version. Help help help, thanks!

Edit: To be a little more specific when I go into my program files folder the PostgreSQL folder is 41GB, the actual PokerTracker V2 Folder is just under 8GB. I have vacuumed tons of times, not sure what else to do.

PokerTracker 3 stores much, much more data than PokerTracker 2. The database is going to end up being significantly larger.

If you are datamining that many hands, you might want to rotate your databases on a 2-3 month basis (example: create a Q1 2007 database, Q2 2007, etc. After you start running out of room, delete the oldest database; the datamined hands from Q1 2005 probably don't matter much anymore.) to conserve space.

Please also try "Clustering" your database, this can help reduce the size (though I doubt it would be that significant).
