Ok, I'm completely new to POSTgresSQL. I've gotten past the connecting to the database part, and I can see 3 databases in pgAdmin but other then that
I need a all kinds of help... I don't even know how to use the Poker Tracker Application to connect to the database and import all the hand that all the other users have clocked (which is what we're doing right?)
Do you have to have the full version to use POSTgreSQL?
Do you use pgAdminIII to start the import process?
How does the whole process work?
I'm lost!
Please help.

If you can see databases in pgadmin - you are fine, and pretty much can forget about postgresql for now.
all the database creation / management is done through the PokerTracker 3 application - there is a menu "database configuration" or similar - poke around in there if you have the full version (the trial will have auto-made you a database on startup.
hand importing and so on, you do this on the "Import" tab on the main screen of PT3.

Thanks for the advice so far.
I'm still having issues though.
I keep expecting that once all is done correctly, when I switch to the "texas hold'em" tab and click refresh, my database will populate with the thousands of players and states from the global database, then I'll be good to go. Is this how PostSQL works?
Just to be sure, I started from scratch (reinstalled both PT3 and PostSQL). Referring to the quick start, It appears that I am all hooked up and running, but it appears I can not "create my first database" because of the trial.
Thanks for helping out someone without a clue

That is incorrect. Have looked through the FAQ's threads?
Your database is functional with the trial version.
Here is one link you may need to read

firstly, i don't think the trial will let you create any new databases - just make do with the default one for now...
secondly, have you populated it with hand-histories? you will not get any stats on anyone until you put some data in...

Hi susan,
I have the hand histories from every table that I've sat at, but I was thinking that POSTgreSQL would give me access to all hands that everyone who uses the database has created. I keep expecting that once I correctly tap into the database, the players in my database would go from the 200 or so that is in it now, to probably thousands n thousands of players?
Is this not what the POSTgreSQL does?
Thanks for helping me out everyone.

this is your private database; it's not a public database or an amalgram of lots of different PT users; the hand histories you've imported forms your raw data - this includes your stats and the stats for other players at the tables you've either played on or observed.
my database for instance, is going to be different from yours, and have different stats, because chances are, we've never played one another at the same table in the same room.
your database therefore, should populate with all those hands and players as per how i've described above - is this how you see it?

that's what I'm coming to learn. But i thought that there would be a way to share data from user to user. That way I can get the stats of everyone that you've played with along with my own... and you'd get all my stats.
I realize that the data would be pretty large, but maybe they could figure out a way to manage it. Maybe Tracker 4?
Thanks for your help.

sounds like a good idea in theory - but i think we might be getting in to the murky waters of "collusion" if we had access to multiple users' databases; something the poker rooms tend to take a very dim view of...
just done a quick calculation btw, with PT3 averaging out @ 5.5GB per 1 million hands, and Stars coming up to 20 billion, a database of every hand played on Stars would be around 110TB...
