Installation Help

Postby Agahnim » Mon Jun 23, 2008 5:00 am

Hey, I'm new here.

I've heard about this site for a while and been wondering whether to use it or not. I decided to download the trial version...the one with posgresql installed. I've read over your quick guide help things and it hasn't seemed to help. I've saved the trial version and run. I'm getting a screen thats suggesting i've already got postgresql installed because i'm not seeing the other start up of it. I dont have a clue what to put in the server/port/database user/password fields. Three are already filled in i just need the password. Everything i'm typing isn't letting me connect does anybody know what i'm doing wrong. Thanks.

1) make sure that you actually fo jave postgres installed and it's running. Task manager should have a few postgres processes running in the process list of that's the case.

2) If it is running then try "dbpass" as the password (I think that's the default they set it up with - I may be wrong)

3) if that doesn't work do a search for pg_hba.conf and post the contents.

Hi,

The Task Manager processes tab showed that postgresql wasn't running. (I did download the version for people without postgres).

The 'dbpass' doesn't work either. I dont know if the default password has changed since..

I just did a search for pg_hba.conf - i assume you mean ' start - search' it didn't bring up any results :(

Thanks for your help so far.

If you go to Control Panel->Add Remove Programs is postgres listed?

In either case I would completely uninstall PT3 and then completely uninstall postgres. Then reboot and try installing PT3 again. If you are running Vista then you must run the installers as administrator. It will be an option if you right click the installer.

Hi Tarix,

When looking in 'add or remove programs', 'postgres' isn't listed. PokerTracker3 (remove only) is though. Is this significant? I keep getting nowhere when trying to install, when im configuring the postgres server i mean, so i click cancel and it says 'are you sure, pokertracker3 wont be able to operate without postgres installed and configured.. im going round in circles :s. Thanks for your help so far anyways...atleast im not on Vista so thats one less thing to worry about.

I'll completely uninstall and reinstall and let you lot know how it goes..Thanks again.

Edit:

Could my firewall be the reason i can't seem to connect/configure the postgres? It doesn't block pokerstars and ive clicked allow everytime it asks about PT 3 but im not the best with this tech stuff..as you've probably guessed so best to ask i suppose.

Make sure that your installer is 25MB and not 5MB. (Right click -> Properties)

If it isn't the ~25MB version then you are using the wrong installer. (It should also have pgsql in it's name.)

Yes, I read this as the OP has downloaded the WITHOUT postgres version. You need to download WITH postgres if you don't already have postgres installed.
