My PT3 is well screwed. Need help please.

Hi, my PT3 recently decided to stop working a few days ago. It would import new hands, but the HUD wouldn't work. So, I decided to re-install PT3 and postgres.

the first time i did it I just Unistalled both, then reinstalled them in the same way as shown on the main site. This didn;t work because it asked for my postgres password upon startup. I can't remember it from the first install.

So, I looked on this forum for some help. I found this page. viewtopic.php?f=45&t=8047#p36976

I tried to follow the instructions but i failed on the below point

3) CHECK FOR A FULL UNINSTALL AND REMOVE THE POSTGRES USER FROM THE SYSTEM (DOS PROMPT) - Go to start -> run... and type in /Program Files then click OK. Look for a folder named postgresql or pokertracker 3. If you see either of them, right click -> delete them. Now close this window and go back to start -> run... and type cmd then click OK. At the DOS Prompt type net user /delete postgres and press enter. You should see The command completed successfully. Now click the x in the upper right hand corner of this window.

the command, 'net user /delete postgres' didn't work. It says access denied.

Has anyone got any advice that might solve my problem and get me running again.

Thanks

What operating system are you using?
Are you running as administrator?

OK, I don't know the ins and outs of the Vista permissions issues, but it seems there are a few of them.
Do you have UAC turned off?
What version of Postgres have you installed?

I did the UC thing and tried to install postgres but again it didn't work. When i try to add my password it comes up with 'invalid username specified :login failure: unknown username or bad password'.

Does this have anything to do with not uninstalling the postgres username properly?

I suspect so, yes.
There are a few really knowledgable and helpful people on this forum, so I'm sure you'll get some help soon.

As a moderator, I'd hoped you'd be able to help me. You have no ideas?

I'm not a Postgres or Vista expert..
If the full re-install method didn't work then I'm not sure what to suggest, sorry. I think the suggestions will be to do with using Safe Mode - in fact...

...a search of the forum comes up with a few suggestions:

Try this:

Glad you got it fixed! What did you find?
Sorry I wasn't more help, but maybe I can add what you found to the Database / Postgres FAQ
