I was using the trial version of pt3 and just bought the full version. Box pops up that says "Configure PostgreSQL Server". The info in this is Server: localhost, Database User: postgres, Port: 5432, Password: (blank). I hit connect and is says "Unabe to connect to this database. Please check configuration." Anyone know what the problem is here? Thanks.

Try password dbpass, or whatever password you set up when you installed postgres.
If that doesn't work, you may need to disable postgres passwords:

Just tried the password and disabled it, still getting the same message. Would I be able to just uninstall everything and redownload pt3 and get a new password, would that work?

I have the same problem. PT3 is on one machine, Postgre is on another. I can telnet through 5432, so I know there are no firewall issues. I can connect to the DB from another machine, so I know it's not the password.
To be honest, it's a pretty damn unhelpful error message. It doesn't say whether or not it can reach the machine, reach the database, whether or not it's a config issue, or a security issue. So i don't know what to fix...any help?

Windows event logs:
Nothing of note.
Logging in pgadmin - how do I do that? I only get one screen in pokertracker - it goes straight to the "Configure PostgreSQL Server" screen, and then closes when I fail to connect.

OK, I shouldn't debug when tired. I read that as ptadmin instead of pgadmin...
Going to check pG logs now...

The pg logs don't show any failed authentication (or anything else relevant.)
PS - You don't want File...Options...Logging from pgadmin. That just logs the pgadmin application itself.
you want Tools...Server Status...Logging. That's the server log.
That will log failed (but not successful) authentication attempts.

Found it. Being the paranoid freak I am, I had limited incoming connections in the pg_hba.conf file. This is a new machine; it wasn't listed.
Interesting that the connections through telnet on 5432 were accepted, however...
