That's my understanding. It sounds like you're going to be running bigger reports on this database not importing to it continuously which makes it even better to update the cache. Though I'd wait until you can start it when you don't plan on doing much with the machine as, obviously, it's going to take a while.

Well, remember that I had the import and housekeeping running like >160 hours continuously and I used the machine quite well at the same time... Watching movies, playing poker, downloading torrents, surfing the net... ;)

That's the magic of QuadCore + 4G RAM + dedicated hard-drive for the database... ;)

Pretty amazing actually how well the multitasking worked considering that the hand importing and housekeeping must have been pretty intensive operations.

I was thinking specifically with the database. Updating the cache in PT3 locks PT3 so you can't do anything else with it.

But you're welcome to watch a movie or two while you wait ;)

Hi PeteX, have you managed to complete your stats yet and if so are they available for download anywhere?

I have couple of the preflop stats done, but I have been very busy with other work-related things lately so haven't had time to finish them yet. I do have the analysis database ready so once I get some other stuff sorted out, I'll get back to those. It isn't very quick though, a single query to my short-NL database with pgAdmin takes over an hour to finish... ;)
