I have no way of telling if they are coming 'much' more quickly because this is a new computer that I specifically got just for the ability to make everything run better.

My former computer was a 3 year old Inspiron 9100 with maybe 1.4mb of RAM I think.
CPU would almost peak out just playing 24 tables with PT and PAHud running on regular mode of hand-history files (no way I could set it to display stats on observed tables). Doing an import on these 24 tables was an adventure and I would have some disconnects. Forget about streaming music or a baseball game at the same time. No way.

My new computer is a Dell XPS 1530 with 4mb RAM and a lot more of everything I guess. So it's going to run faster on everything and while the PAHud and everything does eat up some resources it all runs super-smoothly even with extra programs like streaming music.
No complaints at all. Speed is way way way better but I'm pretty sure it's just the system and is not proof of the cache's existence.
Anyway, it's running fabulous now but I'm worried for the future because I accumulate hands super-fast and would like to be able to set up the cache to work properly eventually.

SUCCESS!
At least it appears so finally. It's loading the info from the database and creating the cache right now and it's taking a long time (which is a good thing as opposed to it claiming it had updated the cache in 3 seconds every time).

I did an uninstall/reinstall of pokerace but I'm not sure that's what did it or not because I'm pretty sure I had already tried that a couple of times.
But perhaps this time I deleted the old cache after reinstalling it in the right order or something.

I also was able to figure out how to change it to logging=Y finally but that didn't have to do with fixing the cache, did it? (thought it was just to log the information of my failed attempts or something).

Anyway, here's how the change in those settings AND being allowed to save them is done:
Right click on pahud.cfg,
go to properties,
go to security,
click 'edit' button.
under system and administrator everything was checked. But under 'Users' (MyName-PC/Users) everything wasn't checked.
Check 'allow' for 'full control' under 'Users' and you are now allowed to make whatever changes.

I'm brand new to this Vista stuff and suck on computers anyway so understand it might have been something super-simple but I'm pretty sure that Vista confuses the crap out of a lot of other people as well so hopefully this info will come in handy.

Great! Glad you got it worked out. No, the logging wouldn't be what fixed it, and I suggest you make sure that is turned off again now you have it working.

Okay, it looked like it was creating the cache but after I let it run all night it was still trying to compile the HH's or whatever (10 hours for 80k hands...hmmm...time to shut it down).
I was excited an thought it was working but now I'm back to getting that 'unable to update cache' thing again. Arrrgh.

So how do I go about sending in whatever had been logged?
I would like to send it in but can't figure out where it is in the 'general' directory or wherever I'm supposed to look or what exactly I'm supposed to copy to send in.

Thanks for your patience and help with all this. Pretty frustrated after almost a week of uninstalling and reinstalling PAHud and deleting the cache and trying to get the logging thing changed etc etc.

And since I still sometimes get the 'database update is complete' message I'm not 100% convinced that I don't have a cache.

Enable logging, reproduce the problem, and send the PAHud.log file via the Support system so that we can review your configurations and troubleshoot the issue.
Tutorial: How to Create a Log File

The tutorial takes you through it step by step. If you still can't work it out, let me know which bit you're stuck on.

when I open the PAHud files via Program Files I see a PAHud Text document that looks like it may be the result of the logging.

The tutorial you included mentions the 'main pokeracehud directory' to find the pahud.log file.
But I simply cannot find anything that says this.

It just looks like a text document which is titled 'PAHud' is what I need. So I'll send that to you via the support ticket and if it's the wrong thing then let me know.

As the tutorial says, if you have file extensions turned off in windows, then you won't see the .log, it will be called PAHud (Text Document), so I think you've got the right thing.

I sent the log file via a support ticket 3 days ago but have not gotten any reply. Did you receive it?
All I got was the automated response that it had been sent and I would be receiving an answer.
If I need to reproduce the problem and send it again I can do so.
Thanks.

I'm really sorry - we're a bit behind on the tickets at the moment. We'll be catching up over the next day or 2.

coolio. just making sure you were alive and received it, etc etc.

As I said, it works fine for now and I'm only concerned about being able to set it up for the future after I build up a zillion more hands so this isn't a pressing issue thankfully.
I'm not sure you will be able to identify the problem from the log-files anyway but, then again, it all looks like absolute jibberish to me.
