Stars Notes

Postby Kevin J » Thu Mar 20, 2008 5:14 pm

Hi,

All of a sudden I can't import player notes into Poker Tracker. The error message I get is:

[color=#BF0000klk][bklk]'The Poker Stars player notes file does not exist, please select the correct file.'[/bklk][/colorklk]

All other programs (Poker Stars and Poker Ace) are shut down before I try to import. I am using Vista, but it worked up until a few days ago. I assumed this problem was due to a recent Stars update. I am running Poker Tracker as an administrator.

Does anyone have any ideas why I can't import player notes? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Are you sure you are running PT as admin? Does Vista prompt you to cancel/allow PT to run? It should.
Can you find the Notes.txt file in the c:\program files\pokerstars folder if you search for it using Windows Explorer?

Yes, like I said I AM running as admin, and it does prompt me.

The only file I find in the Poker Stars directory is called : PS_Notes__20080303_1.txt.

I directed PT to that file and it DID import! But I'm concerned that I didn't permanently fix the problem. I don't understand why the file includes a date. Is it possible that Stars changed this during one of the updates?

FYI Pat Stars Correspondence

Pat, Here's what someone else said they received from Stars:

[quotehh1]Hello mate,

this is what pokerstars tech support told me yesterday:

"As part of a recent update the location of log files and your notes file
on Windows Vista machines was changed.

The easiest way to find them after downloading our latest update is to:

1. Launch our PokerStars software
2. Go to the 'Help' menu in our lobby and select 'Open My Settings Folder'

The directory containing your current log files, user.ini, notes.txt file
and other information will be opened. This change is very recent and
experimental. Please put any notes file you wish to use at that location
(which is only accessible using the menu opotion in our software) and make
sure it is named notes.txt."

hope this helps.[/quotehh1]

Just thought you might like to know about it.

Use Windows Explorer to search your hard drive for the Notes.txt file. Maybe it's in the My Documents or the Documents and Settings folder now somewhere.

If you are able to find it you should be able to point PT to look at the Notes.txt file in that folder.

There is a notes.txt file in the Poker Stars directory (on my computer), but Poker Tracker does not recognize it. In other words, when I click on the '...' button to the right of Poker Stars in the Import/Export Player Notes window to browse files, I can only see the sub-folders of Stars (i.e. Backup, GX, Hand History, etc.). It does not show this or any other 'notes' file.

I don't know a lot about computers Pat, but I'm pretty sure this has something to do with a change in a recent Stars update download. This featured worked perfectly before my last download from Stars. I've never had a problem before.

I don't think that's really the name of the file though because you don't have file extensions turned on.

On Vista, to turn on file extensions, see here
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1269/vis ... extensions

Now look for that file. Is it really called notes.txt or is there another file extension like .archive or something like that (i.e. notes.txt.archive)??

Did you search your hard drive to see if you could find just a Notes.txt file?

Cool link. I've bookmarked it. I know you think I'm crazy, but this is really weird. When I open my Windows Explorer, I don't see a notes.txt file. When I go to the 'open my folder settings' from the Poker Stars lobby help window, I DO see a notes file.

Now from the Poker Stars program, when I go to 'help, open my folder settings', I get this:

Notice from the Stars window I can see a notes.txt file, while in my own Windows Explorer I cannot. I'm not sure where the Poker Stars software is getting its window from. I'm very confused.

Kev, you are starting to confuse me (PS your topic duplicates Poker Stars export problem) but I too cannot find a current Notes text file when I use explorer to search (only find a 'notes.txt' modified ages ago and one that has a date in the name from a fortnight ago) but when I use the Stars 'Help - Open folder settings' I see a text file named 'Notes' dated a week ago (when I last played).

Luckily my son now came along to help me. [color=#4000BF69s]SOLUTION[/color69s]

This Notes file found under Stars Help was located [color=#FF000069s]C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Local\PokerStars\Notes[/color69s]. The folder AppData is a hidden folder and you have to enable hidden folders and files to be shown (when you have explore or any folder open, click tools, then folder options, then on the view tab- in the small scroll box you will find "show hidden files and folders")
Then on Trackers 'import/export' screen we clicked on the '...' to the right of Stars and changed the file to the path above. (Then do an import to apply this change.

Is this OK Pat or is there a better alternative?
