PG_Restore.exe

Postby zdarma » Tue Aug 19, 2008 7:14 pm

I have recently re-installed PT2 and am running version 2.17.02a. Everytime I click restore it asks me for the location of pg_restore.exe. I point it to the right folder, but the very next databse I want to import, it asks again for the location of the pg_restore.exe file. I have added the path to the executable in my environmental paths and hoped by stopping and restarting the PGSQL-8.3 service, it would take into acc't the changes I made. I did not have this problem when I was running PT under Windows XP, but with the new computer, I have no choice but to run PT in Vista. Is there something I can modify that will solve this problem for me?

I have searched the forum to see if anyone else has had a similar problem, but unfortunately I didn't find anything.

Thanks

With PT and PostgreSQL 8.3 PT is expecting this file to be in the same folder as the ODBC drivers which, in 8.3, they no longer are. So if you make a copy of that file and take it from the bin folder and put it into the folder where the PostgreSQL 8.3 ODBC drivers are then it should not prompt you.

I copied the file to "C:\Program Files\psqlODBC\0803\bin" as I thought this was the folder for the ODBC drivers, stopped and restarted the service, but I'm still being prompted for the location of pg_restore.exe. Did I put it in the right folder or is it somewhere else?

Using REGEDIT, go to the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\PostgreSQL Unicode

section - what is the value in the "Driver" field. Whatever folder that driver file is in is typically where PT would be looking for the pg_restore.exe file.

The "driver" field is the one I mentioned in my previous post "C:\Program Files\psqlODBC\0803\bin\".

Is there something I have to do in Vista for it to take into account where the file is located?

OK, I just looked at the code. Try putting the pg_restore.exe file in just the main "c:\program files" folder and see what happens then.

I am having this same problem...

I have a .backup of an old PT2 database, and I would like to restore it.
using PT2 2.17.02 & Postgres 8.3

when I would browse for the file to restore, i'd get the box asking where pg_restore was...

So, I put it in the C:\program files\ directory, and when I click "restore" it no longer asked for that file.

BUT...

I immediately get this error: pg_restore.exe - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because zlib1.dll was not fount. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

any ideas?
can I just go download this 1 file? and if so, where do I put it?

THanks

Can't you just navigate to the c:\program files\postgresql\8.3\bin folder where the file used to be and select it from there? There is probably some other file that it needs. If you moved the file, put it back where it was and then browse to select it when PT prompts you to.
