postgreSql networking basics?

Postby Kingston24 » Fri Jan 09, 2009 1:27 pm

Hi,

could someone please explain the basic things about postgreSQL networking like:
-Where is original database stored (i guess on one of the PCs), so both must be turned on???
-Can you update database between computers over network too?
-is this meant only for reading database from other location, or for updating?
-How accurate is it, or does it use much more resources?
-is this for PT3 only, will it work on PTO?

Your database is stored on your computer. By default it's located in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\data\ where 8.x is your database version. If you can connect to the database via the network, you are most likely going to also be able to edit it; you can definitely edit if you follow this tutorial. That tutorial was built for PT3, so the connection in PTv2 will be slightly different, but all of the PostgreSQL stuff will still be the same.

You shouldn't be importing to the same database in more than one location at a time though, it will likely cause database corruption.
