Restoring old PT2 Postgre Databases

I had to take my laptop in to the computer shop a while ago. They ended up have to reformat and reinstall Vista. They backed up the Program Files/ PT2 and Postgre folders. Is this enough to restore my old DBs? How do i do it?

Did you have any backups you made of the PostgreSQL database(s) before you took it in to be fixed?? Are you saying all you have is the PostgreSQL database files but no backups that were made using the PostgreSQL Database Functions window in PT that creates a single .backup file of the database?

That's correct, no .backup files =/
Is it impossible to get the databases back up?

1. Create a new folder on your C drive called PostgreSQL_Data.
2. Go to where they saved your old data files to and there should be a ..\program files\postgresql\8.2 folder. Right-click on the "data" folder and select "Copy" from the popup menu.
3. Go to the newly created c:\PostgreSQL_Data folder and right-click and select "Paste" from the popup menu.
4. Now, download and reinstall PostgreSQL as directed here:

WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT on the second window where it asks you where you want to install PostgreSQL click on the "Data Directory" button and navigate to the c:\PostgreSQL_Data\data folder and select that. This will force it to try to reuse your old data.

CONTINUE until you get to the window that has the "Initialize Database Cluster" box at the top left corner. UNCHECK THIS BOX and click the Next button and then just continue installing from there.

5. Open PT, go to the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window and enter the appropriate information there.
6. Then go to the File > Maintain Database Names window, click the Add button. Enter a description, check the "Dflt" box and in the last field choose "Select existing PostgreSQL database" from the list. This should open a window where you can select the database. Click OK to save all changes then CLOSE AND REOPEN PT.
