where is my database?

Postby DRedstone » Tue May 20, 2008 2:36 pm

My computer has been broken and am now busy transfering all my information to my replacment computer.
So where is my postgresSQL database?
I think I backup all important information from my broken computer.

Thanks

If you don't have any backup files that you made using the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window then you are going to have to try to restore your database by copying the data folder over to the new computer. See here for more details...

thanks for the quick reply.
Am currently still struggling to get postgres to work.

I installed it installing PT3 (seems like the easiest way to install it and worked the las time) however when I try to start postgres on PT2 I can't choose a ODBC entry to use, its simply blank.
Am sure I'm missing something, but not sure what yet.

Were you using PostgreSQL 8.3 before this with PT2? If not, you shouldn't be trying to use 8.3 to recover the data, you would need to install the version of PostgreSQL you were using before.

I think I was, since my PostgresSQL folder as a 8.3 folder in it.

another weird problem, Hud doesn't see my PT3 beta Database (tried to play a little using that instead of good ol trusty PT2)

PokerAce HUD doesn't work with PT3, PT3 has it's own built in HUD.

Does your PostgreSQL folder have any other folders, like 8.2 in it?

If not, make a backup of the c:\program files\postgresql\8.3\data folder to be safe.

Then I would suggest uninstalling PT3 and PostgeSQL using the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs window.

Download this version of PostgreSQL:
http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/downloa ... .3.1-1.zip

Extract all the files out of the ZIP file into a separate folder.
Then double-click on the postgresql-8.3.msi file to install it.

WHEN YOU GET TO THE WINDOW THAT HAS A BOX SAYING "Initialize database cluster" at the top left part of the screen, UNCHECK that box and click the Next button.

The last part of the install is the Stack Builder application you can run. See here for what to select...

Then on the PostgreSQL Settings window in PT2, you would select "PostgreSQL Unicode" from the list.
