Deleting stakes

In the Filters where you can choose all the stakes, I got so many stakes that I have tried and only have about 100 or even less hands and I have purged them from the database because I don't need them. They all still stay in the stake drop down menu and when I want to find the stake I want it can take a while when I notice the one I need, so can I delete the ones I don't use and don't have any hands of them in the database?

Have you restarted PT4?
I'm sure I remember testing this a while ago and purging all hands for a stake should remove the stake too.

I have restarted multiple times on different versions. I never cared about having one or 2 more stakes I don't play anymore, but recently imported all of my ever played hands, wanted to look around how I was playing and after I purged them but now I have like 12 stakes and only play 4 of them.

I just exported the hands I needed and created a new database and imported the hands and now I only got the stakes I want. But I had to remove (not delete) the old database just to get the new hands going in the new database, I had set the new database active and default but the hands still kept going in the old one, so I had to remove it from the database list. Did i do something wrong, or it wasn't my fault?

The default is to import hands into the active database - it is possible to change this though in the Configure --> Sites & Import Options --> Preferences area. It's possible you changed that at some point and that caused the behavior you experienced.
One note: Removing a database does not delete it. If you actually want to delete that old database the easiest way will be to reconnect it (via Database --> Database Management --> New, then clicking Browse, picking it and clicking Connect, then highlighting it and clicking the Delete button. That will actually completely eliminate the database from your hard drive and reclaim the used space.

I'm having the same issue; purged the hands/stakes from the database but they still appear in the "stakes" drop down. Restarted PT4 many times without success. Ideally, I don't what to have to export reimport etc this seems like something PT4 should take care of automatically.
