How do I change over from PT3 to PT4 ?

I am a PT 3 user and I have been looking through the FAQ's to find specific instructions on how to change over and convert to PT4. Yes I know I have to buy the upgrade, and I have found a FAQ on how to import PT3 database. But nothing tells me when and if I need to uninstall PT3? Do I need to upgrade or uninstall PostgreSQL version 8.3 and if so when? What changes, if any will I have to make to my imported PT3 DB once it is in PT4. I guess what I am looking for is the step by step instructions of what as a PT3 user I need to do to switch over to PT4 starting from "Download the PT4 program to your computer", and anything that I need to do either before or after dowloading in order to convert.

I am thinking that Kraada and whiterider will have a FAQ sticky up soon with that question answered.

In the mean time export all of your cash / tourneys into a separate folder until instructed further.

HUH? Sorry, I appreciate your reply but really don't know what you mean or how to do what you have instructed. Again, further detailed step by step instructions needed. This type of information and specific instructions of what to do and in what order prior to or after installing PT4 is what I am looking for. I find it hard to believe that Pocker Tracker has not posted such how-to steps, so I am assuming I have missed it, but I would also think that such information would be at the forefront of PT3 to PT4 upgrade information easily found by PT3 users. But instead, when you click on the link that says:
"Do you want to upgrade from PokerTracker 3 to PokerTracker 4? Visit the upgrades page" all you get is the PT4 pricing page
https://www.pokertracker.com/products/PT4/purchase.php

The assitant feature does everything for you but i think there may be an issue going from Pt3 to PT4 in the latest release (just guessing).

i am updating my beta to latest release so i can't do a exact step by step but let me try:

1 - Top menu selections, one has EXPORt HANDS option, select that

2 -Pop up window appears and select one of the top menus that says ADVANCED option

3 - Now selct Tourney and it should by default select all of your tourney hands to export to a directory (it will allow you to name and create a directory)

4 - It may take a few hours to complete.

5 - once completed, repeat with all of your cash hands.

If not sure, someone will help you within next 6 hours from PT4.

You do not need to do anything else - when you first run PT4 it will transfer the information from your PT3 database to a new PT4 database for you automatically (if you choose) and everything will be set up for you to start using PT4 straight away.

There is no need to uninstall PT3 - both can run fine together. I'd suggest that you leave PT3 as it is for now so that you can refer back if you need to. Once you have everything running well and are happy with PT4 you may wish to remove PT3 at that point.
If you have an old version of PostgreSQL and wish to take advantage of a newer version (for example if you have 64-bit Windows you may want to update to PostgreSQL 9.0 as that has a 64-bit version and will offer some performance improvement) before you start using PT4 you can, but there is no need to do that either if you're not happy with updating PostgreSQL manually.

WhiteRider,

How would I do in my case... I have PT3 running in a Mac and now using the Win partition on the machine until you release the PT4 version for Mac. When I try to backup the PT3 database to restore it into PT4 I get a message saying -that it doesn´t backup PT3 databases-. Pls tell me if there is a post or support guide in the site that instructs me how to do it.

Thx in advance for your help.

Cheers,

D

The easiest thing to do for you is going to be to export your PT3 hands from PT3 manually via the Database --> Database Management --> Export window. Export all cash game and tournament hands that way. If you don't have any manually entered notes in PT3 all you need to do is import those files into PT4 and you'll be all set.

Kraada thx for the response.

When I do what you say I get the files with and extension .csv

I tried to upload them via Database Management in Pt4 ..... Restore

It comes back with a predefined extension of Zip files...

How should I upload the obtained Pt3 files into the Pt4 program then...?

Thx in advance.

Brgds,

D

It sounds like you may have exported a report from PT3 rather than the hand histories.
Please follow the Tutorial: Exporting Sessions to export your histories from PT3.

That's good news. I was a bit worried that after upgrading I would lose PT3 functionality.
Does that also mean that I can play poker with PT3 and afterwards import my hands that I played into PT4? I'm asking because I'm not sure if I want to use notecaddy with PT3 or notetracker with PT4.
