Just Upgraded from PT3 to PT4 and it is very slow

Postby Wardy » Wed May 08, 2013 6:21 am

I am currently trialling PT4 after using PT3 for many years now. All the features look great but it is so painfully slow when trying to load up any stats/graphs etc. It is taking 15-20 minutes to generate stats/graphs and anything else really whereas PT3 would do these in <minute. Is there anyway of speeding up PT4? There's noway I will be able upgrade to PT4 if it is going to be this slow :(

I had the same issue. There's an option to tune the database server in Database > Database Management. After I did that, it was in fact much faster than PT3.

There are also a few tournament specific slowdowns at the moment that I believe should be fixed for our next release.

What option is there in Database management to tune it? I only see rebuild cache and housekeeping (already auto housekeep when I import).

It's under Housekeeping -> Tune PostgreSQL Database.

Ahh thanks Kraada. Would yourself or anyone else know whether upgrading from 4GB --> 16GB RAM improve PT4 speed by much?

Making that kind of RAM upgrade will make your entire computer happier, PT4 included.

Hi, maybe this is the wrong place to post but i had only 1 or 2 simple questions about upgrading from PT3 to PT4.

I bought PT3 on August 2011. Am I allowed to upgrade to PT4 for free? If so, should i uninstall PT3 before downloading + installing PT4?

And a final one, would i be able to switch back to PT3 (for whatever reason) after i enter my code on PT4?

Thanks in advance

I think the cutoff was in June 2011 so I think you're good to go. Add the equivalent PT4 version to your cart on our purchase page and you'll see your discount applied - assuming you are eligible for a free version, you'll see a price of $0.00 so you just need to go through the process to get your code.

Your PT3 code still never expires, and PT3 can still be used on your system alongside PT4.

Think I may give that a shot. I've tuned DB in housekeeping but just getting session stats up is taking upwards of 20 minutes and I have my DB filtered to 300k hands. PT3 would take maybe a minute or two max handling the same task why is it so much slower on PT4?
