Updated to 4.11 now stuck "updating database"

Postby Adreno » Mon May 19, 2014 6:26 pm

So it's been 6 hours now and I'm gonna go to sleep. I have about 1M hands in my database but I expected the update to be done by now. What should I do if it's still "updating" in the morning?

It most likely shouldn't be, but the update is fairly large so I'm not surprised that it took a little while for you. Just let it run overnight and it'll likely be done by morning.

If you check task manager and show processes from all users do you still see activity for PokerTracker and/or postgres.exe ?

FYI same problem here, has been "updating database" for 12 hours.

Both services are still running.

Yes. There was 2 instances of PokerTracker (different file names) and several instances of postgres. The pokertracker instances were using 1-3% of CPU every few seconds. I killed them now and started PT4 without updating the database.

I had made a database backup yesterday. Today I moved the backup to a 2nd computer along with the installer file for the previous version of PokerTracker. I installed the old version on the 2nd machine and restored the backup. I then exported all hands from this year and moved the hand history files back on my main computer. I created a fresh PT4 database and imported those hands. When I tried adding my aliases, I was able to add one correctly, but the second one gave me this error:

Error: Unable to execute query: Fatal Error; Reason: Error: (ERROR: duplicate key value violates unique constraint "cash_cache_primary_key" )

I'm lost! What should I do? Can I install the older version of PT4 over this newer version?

Adreno, how many hands are we looking at?

Chuck, what kinds of CPU usage are you seeing?

I have 1M hands in my old database, 85k hands this year.

I now installed the older version and I'm going to try using the old database (the one that was being "updated" for 20 hours). If it doesn't work I'll restore the database from backup and try again.

edit: aaand after playing 2 hands PokerTracker crashed. Trying to restore from backup...

CPU usage was minimal but memory usage (2GB) was maxed out. There were probably 10 instances of postgre.exe process running so I stopped them and then restarted the postgre.exe process and the memory usage dropped to about 800MB.

Chuck,

Did the processes restart on their own or did you need to restart PostgreSQL via the services snap in? If you had to restart it, it's now unlikely PT4 will ever finish the update, so you're going to want to kill it, restart it, and Rebuild Cache via Housekeeping. The good news though is that Rebuild Cache should give you a rough idea of how long it should take so you'll at least have an idea where you are in the process this time.

Adreno,

Try creating a new database and just importing a few hands from each alias and then creating the aliases. Do you still have trouble? If not, then import everything else into that database. If so, attach the few hands to a support ticket and then we'll be able to reproduce it and figure out the best next step for you.
