configuration of computer for the best work PT4?

Postby Leopard » Wed Oct 24, 2018 9:09 pm

I building a new computer & wanna to see the best work for PT4 (best time for opening popups, I use many custom stats, including stats vs hero; best time for draw graphics in reports on complex filters)
On today I have Macbook Pro retina 2012 (i7-3615QM 2.3GHz, SSD) and it works pretty hard...
Can you advise what kind of components I should use for the best perfomance?
Is it critical perfomance per core? Or number of core & number of threads?
Is it critical the speed SSD?
Is it critical the speed/timings of RAM?
Can you criticize my variant:
asrock z370 extreme4 + i7-9700K+ G.Skill Trident Z 16GB DDR4 Kit 3600 CL16 + Samsung SSD 970 Evo M.2 250GB

Performance depends on several factors including the size of your database, how many sites/tables you play at the same time and how many other programs are running. The specifications you've posted are fine and any small tweaks based on those aren't likely to bring significant improvements but it would help if your entire database can fit in RAM (bear in mind some of your RAM will be used by other programs). Also disk space is important so if you are using the 250GB SSD as a primary drive for Windows, a large database and other programs that might mean you start running out of space. It is ideal to have as much free space as the size of your largest database, although for most operations that much isn't really necessary, but Windows will work more efficiently when you have a good amount of free disk space as well. Finally if your vs Hero custom stats don't use the database cache then those must be calculated independently each time your HUD updates.

So did I understand you correctly:
1) 4x16Gb modules 2666MHz (64GB at all)
is much better than
2) 2x8Gb modules 4133MHz (only 16GB at all)
(let my database is less than 50Gb & I dont use any hard programms with working PT4 at the same time)

There is screenshot of my database at moment, is it possible to make a conclusion this entire database fit in RAM, for example, 16 GB system?

Based on the size your existing database 16GB of RAM should be fine.

It is not the final base size, of course ;)
So, did I understand you corretly:
If I have 64Gb RAM & my base size is about 30Gb...
after the PT4 start running, it checks if there is enough RAM memory to load base from ssd into RAM....
and if so...
PT4 automatically loading the whole base completely into RAM ? And then it wokrs with base using only very fast RAM, no using slower ssd?
Or should I use kind of RAM-disk, manually install PT4 & postgreSQL on it, and only then I can get the best perfomance?

Another question:
what about the best processor for PT4?
- ryzen 7 2700X, 8 cores, 16 threads, 3.7(4.3) HGz
- intel i7-8700K, 6 cores, 12 threads, 3.7(4.7) HGz

Are more threads better for PT4 (espeсially for HUD & popups in the game)? Or more HGz ?
Please note, that I use complicated HUD with a stats vs hero

Most of the performance is related to PostgreSQL (the program where PokerTracker 4 stores your poker data) and the questions you are asking are beyond my own knowledge. Maybe if there are any PostgreSQL experts reading they can chime in otherwise I can only suggest referring to the PostgreSQL Wiki and other resources on the internet.
