Inconsistent hand counts

Postby o0Q0o » Fri Jun 14, 2024 6:18 pm

I have a very large database. Recently I ran a player report counting the number of hands meeting this condition.

cash_hand_summary.str_aggressors_p = '80'
and cash_hand_player_statistics.cnt_players = 6

Naturally I anticipated every position having the same row count. Instead I discovered slight differences. See the small table at the bottom.

I suspect, the hand histories provided by the website have a rare inconsistency. The hand histories are successfully imported, but some data are missing.

Ultimately the rare inconsistencies make possible the results I’m seeing.

This has piqued my curiosity. Would you please explain what might be happening?

Position Hands
BTN 7,657,472
CO 7,657,479
MP 7,657,482
EP 7,657,481
BB 7,657,474
SB 7,657,480

If these are datamined hands provided by a third party then PokerTracker 4 does not support those and using datamined hands is against the terms of most poker sites so if you have any problems with the data obtained from those types of hands we can't help with that.

I appreciate your integrity. I never mentioned anything about data mining. Yes, poker sites prohibit using data mined hands to compliment play. I would not do such a thing. It’s in clear violation of of terms of use.

I used the phrase website because all poker sites are websites. They specialize in poker, but they are websites.

In there future, I’ll reference them as poker sites in the PokerTracker forums.

I don't see this in any sample I have and you are currently looking for a handful of hands in ~7.5 million so you should narrow this down. PokerTracker 4 has the tools for you to identify this.

You can filter by site, gametype, stakes, date e.t.c. to identify a much smaller sample. For example you can filter by year and if you see the issue in one year but not another you can then start filtering by the months in that year.

It might also be coincidence but your total number of player hands with your expression filter is still divisible by 6:

45,944,868 / 6 = 7,657,478

Add the 'Position (FR)' statistic to the report so you can see the individual positions and if any players have been assigned positions outside of what would normally be expected at a 6 handed table. If there are hands like that you can then filter based on those positions to see the relevant hands.
