Problems with Effective Stack Size

Hello, I encounter a lot of problems using the effective stack size filter. If I set eff. stack size to min. 100 bb for example, I expect hero and villain to have at least 100 bb, however, I often find hands where some shortstacks are involved. Why does this happen and how can fix my problem? I tried some extra conditions like actual stack size, but it doesnt seem to help much.

The effective stack for each player is determined at their first action in the hand/street and it's defined as the maximum amount a player could potentially lose as of their first action in the hand/street e.g. if a player with 100bb is taking their first action and there are players left to act that have 100bb or more then that players effective stack size will be 100bb. If all of the players left to act have smaller stacks then the players effective stack will be determined by the villain with the largest stack.

ok, so if its a 3way spot with stacks 100 bb (hero), 90 bb and 30 bb, the effective stack size is 90 bb, right? this would provide the reason why my filtered hands show some spots where the shorty is involved, when the big stack (90 bb) folds and the shorty continues. anything i can do about it?

The hero effective stack will only be 90bb if the 90bb stack is still involved in the hand at the point of heros first action. If the 90bb stack folds before heros first action then their effective stack will be 30bb (or zero if they receive a walk).

There aren't any alternative filters to account for that. If you want to filter hands based on the data of players other than the active player then that would require a custom expression filter that uses a subquery - for more on how SELECT works see here.

idk, this filter seems buggy. i filtered for 2way turn check-raises with effective stacks 150bb+ (especially on the turn). the report shows a hand with stacks 847bb and 80bb (shorty). shorty bets 7.5bb into 22.5bb and hero check-raises to 26bb. why does effective stack not work here? my guess is that eff = actual stack size.

and the filter settings are attached. The settings dont show it, but the effective stack size was choosen for the turn.

Thank you. While I do see an issue with the postflop effective stacks in this hand can you please open a Support Ticket with a link to this thread and confirm the source of your hand history since while it imports as a GGPoker hand this hand history is not in the format of a hand provided by GGPoker.

side question in this context:

whats the difference between these two filters:

1) not ( suits on river three cards of any one suit )

2) suits on river less than three cards of any one suit?

with resprect to this hand: A3s on AxKxTs 2ss 8s.

i would expect that both conditions filter this hand out. however, with the first one it's still in.
