Getting "Default Unable to login to database (postgres)."

I recently migrated to a new hard drive, yesterday PT was working fine on my test for thirty minutes. Today, after a restart I get a pop-up:

That message suggests that PostgreSQL isn't running, but without knowing your setup it's hard to know why that might be. Do you have PostgreSQL in Applications? Can you start the server manually? If you can, does PT4 work OK now?

Can you tell us exactly what you did to migrate to the new hard drive? For example are you now using the new drive exclusively? Does the old drive still exist in the system? Did you move your entire operating system or just PT4?

I was thinking about this last night, I did do one thing which might explain my issues. Having checked my APPLICATIONS, there is indeed only a file folder for PostgreSQL which has support files within and not the actual application. It appears the actual application PostgreSQL has left the building.

How did this happen? After the original restart, I was signing back into my computer. I now noticed my sign-in page had a new person added to the page, under the name of PostgreSQL. Something that has happened before, and just as before, I signed in under my name and went to SYSTEM PREFS to remove the name PostgreSQL from the list of sign-in names. I saw no need for this name to be there, I am the only user of the computer and like things to be clean and simple.[/quote]

The 'postgres' user is necessary for PostgreSQL to work - you can hide the user from your login screen but you cannot remove the user. To reinstall PostgreSQL follow this guide.
