Done. But could it be as simple as reinstalling Postgres 9.0 on my Mac? Don't want to try that without being advised, though.

PostgreSQL definitely needs to be installed so if you uninstalled it you should try reinstalling it first - if you have problems, then create that ticket. Our reinstall guide is available

No of course I didn't uninstall it. I'm just wondering if it might be a quick fix if I reinstalled Postgres 9.0 over my existing installation and leaving PT4 and the data alone.

That error message is implying that PostgreSQL is not running - so attempting a reinstall won't hurt here. Though if it's not running for some other reason it may not help, either.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Mike (the other mike) for his help in the support ticket regarding this issue. He took time to give detailed and clear instructions with explanations and got me running again. It's rare to come across support as good as his.
