Winning Poker Network

Postby darkhorse » Tue Sep 03, 2013 2:10 am

I read that the Mac OS version of PT4 can import WPN hands (using Parallels here), however I don't see WPN listed anywhere in PT4 for Mac as an import option, at least for auto importing while playing. This leads to a few questions.

1. If I can't auto import, can I not use a HUD on WPN unless I've got PT4 running on the Windows side?
2. Is HUD use on the Mac not supported if I play on any site on the Windows side?
3. I assume I will be able to import WPN hands after my session by manually importing?

If all this is the case, it might behoove me to set up PT4 on the Windows side, and simply maintain a different database for any Windows play.

1 - 3 are all correct. Since there is no native Mac client you can't auto import on Mac (but you can Get Hands From Disk afterwards, if you can access the hand history files on Windows). You can only run one instance of PT4 to import to a single database, and we recommend installing PostgreSQL on your Mac and connecting to that from PT4 running in Parallels for best performance.

Oh, good tips. So does that mean that I can access the same database on both sides? Meaning auto-import on the PC side and it will show up on the Mac side?

Yes, it can be set up to work like that.

I've just installed PT4 onto the PC but I'm having problems connecting to the Mac's database. I used all defaults on Mac side and am not changing anything on the PC side when it tries to connect.

Do I still need to install Postgres onto the PC (I declined the option to install it), or is something more likely configured incorrectly? There are a ton of settings in Parallels. I'm trying to make everything be able to access everything.

Perhaps there is a tutorial somewhere.

You need to allow PostgreSQL to connect to the network (the default setup has it for the local machine only). See this tutorial for the details.

This might be too complicated for what I'm after, but now I want to solve it.

The IP address of my Parallels machine is on the same subnet, but their addresses start with different numbers, so I'm not sure if the directions in that tutorial apply to me. My Mac's IP address is 192.168.1.64 but the PC inside of Parallels is 10.211.55.9 ... I improvised and from the tutorial added the following text to my pg_hba.conf file:

host all all 10.211.55.0/24 md5

I then launched PT4 on the PC side, changed server from localhost to my Mac's IP address and it still couldn't connect. Tried localhost too but nothing. I can ping both IP addresses from both sides, so they can see each other.

Like I said, might be more trouble than it's worth! But would be good to have proper documentation for Mac users wishing to HUD with PT4 on PC only sites.

(by the way, also made the other change in the postgresql.conf file from the tutorial)

I assume you followed the "Special Note for Apple OS X Users" at the end of that tutorial to allow you to save the changes you made to the config files?
Please ensure that you don't have a # sign at the start of any lines you changed, as that means that they are commented out and not used.

Did you reboot your Mac to force PostgreSQL to reload the new configuration? That may be all you need to do, although it is possible that the different type of IP address your Parallels machine has causes a problem. kraada will be able to help you further with this if you still can't get things working, but he's off today and tomorrow.

I did read those instructions, and was aware that putting a # in front of anything in the code nullifies that line.

But now I've done it. I broke PT4 on the Mac side as well :( So now I can't even use PT4 until this is fixed. When I try to launch PT4 on the Mac I get the following error:

Unable to login to database (postgres). Reason: could not connect to server: No such file or directory Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

When I click Configure Details the standard connect box comes up with all the defaults, but it comes back with the "Unable to connect to this database" error.

I backed up those config files the above linked tutorial referenced, and replaced them with the originals. I even restarted as you suggested, all to no avail.

Help!

Please open a Support Ticket with a link to this thread and request a remote session so that someone can connect to your computer to help you sort this out directly.
