Any way to improve PT4 speed?

Hi,

Usually my HUD works fine and everything is fast while I'm playing but, under the tab Results, the games take a lot of time to load. The results graph shows up instantaneously but the games take some time to load. For example, I haven't been playing much this month so I only played 135 games. I asked PT to show me this month's only games and, while the graph showed up pretty quickly, the list with the games took at least 2 minutes to show.

Today I was trying to* help a friend configuring PT4 on his Windows computer and, to my surprise, when I loaded up all his games on the Results tab for testing purposes, PT4 showed all of his 18k games almost instantaneously. While I know that my DB is probably way bigger than his, does that make such a big difference on loading 135 vs 18k games?

From what I understand, this may be because is DB is way newer than mine. Is there anything I can do to tidy up/speed up the DB without losing any information?

I'm running PT on a i7 MBP with 16GB RAM and a SSD. Everything runs smoothly, including PT while importing and running the HUD so the issue is definitely with my DB.

*said trying to because I ended up not being able to make the HUD show on his computer. I'll let him finish the session, follow the troubleshooting procedures and ask him to contact support in case we end up not being able to solve the issue. Btw, will the HUD work on Play Money tables? It's the best way to test and would be great if possible.

It may be slower for some reports with filters because that prevents use of the cache, or it could be that you've added one or more stats to the report which cause it to be slower.
However, if you're viewing a report like "by session" then it has to retrieve a lot of individual pieces of data so removing all filters won't help because that just means it needs to retrieve more data. Try right clicking the report and choosing Configure Report then Restore to Defaults and see if that is quicker with the default stats only?
Are all reports slow, or just this one? (If it's just this one, which one are you looking at)
If all reports are slow then try turning off all filters so that the cache can be used, and if it's still slow you may need to rebuild the cache via Database > Database Management, but if it only affects certain reports then that is not likely to be the problem and rebuilding the cache will probably take a significant time if you have a large database.
If things are still slow please open a Support Ticket and report your problem so that we can check your log and see what is going on.

The Hud works on play money tables for some sites, but not all - if play money hands import then the Hud should work, so it's probably quickest just to try it.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I experience slowness on the View Stats and Statistics tab. The report is Overview and I experience slowness on some days when I want to review one or more tournaments and select a specific date (I guess this is the best way to choose a specific tournament and review HH). Curiously, since posting here I haven't been able to reproduce the issue and tournaments have been reasonably fast to load so I'll cross my fingers for this to be magically solved or somehow unrelated to PT4. In case it happens again, I'll first try your suggestions and, if that doesn't solve it, I'll post again.

One last question though. Is there any reason why I should be rebuilding the cache every now and then? I don't mean every month but my DB is 13GB and it will only grow in size. If that improves performance on PT4 I wouldn't mind doing it every semester or something.

Again, thank you.

There is no need to rebuild the cache regularly; PT4 keeps the cache updated automatically. If you notice slower performance you could try reindexing the databasefirst (from the Housekeeping menu in Database Management) and that can help, although again it shouldn't need to be done regularly.
