Backing up a PT2 BD

Postby R18A1I4 » Fri Mar 21, 2008 2:19 pm

I am having trouble making a back-up file of my SQL PT2 DB. When I attempt this it prompts me to save the file, then execute a page dump. What do I do at this point? Is there a file I need to find somewhere?

Edit: sorry, wrong forum

The file that is created is the one you gave a name for when it prompted you before backing up. There should be a file called XXXXX.backup created by this process where XXXXXX is the name you entered before the backup started.

Okay, so it says "select/enter a backup file name"... so say I call it "DB1" and save it to my desktop. Right after I do this, another window comes up asking me to open a page dump file... but the file has to be an .exe file. This is where I'm confused.

Do you mean that it is asking you to locate the "pg_dump.exe" file???

If it is then are you using PostgreSQL 8.3? If you are then you have to navigate that window to the c:\program files\postgresql\8.3\bin folder and the pg_dump.exe file should be there for you to select.

Yes, that's what I meant. I did that and now a command prompt asking for a password is there, but I can't type anything into it. What now?

Thanks for your help so far btw.

Click on the link at the bottom of the window where it says "IMPORTANT: If you are prompted for a password..." and make the changes to the file listed there.

LOL, TYVM. I even read that earlier and figured "well, this must not apply to me because I'm not getting that." 8-)

Thanks again
