PGadmin cant connect

Postby carlos50 » Tue Aug 11, 2009 8:04 am

I am trying to backup my DB with this guide "Backup/Restore with PGAdmin", but PGadmin cant connect to server. It gives this error message:

"could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "127.0.0.1" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?"

Forgot some important info. PT3 connects without any problems.

Furthermore I tried the following:

unable to login to database (PT3_xxxx_xx_xx_xxxxxx) - reason:could not connect to server:connection refused(0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting TCPT/IP connection on port 5432?
First thing to try is to restart the postgres service.
Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Start Service.
If this doesn't help, try a reboot.
Update: try this;
Try stopping the service (Start -> Programs -> Postgres -> Stop Service), running a search on your computer for postmaster.pid and then deleting that file, then restarting the service and see if that helps.
Note that you may need to turn on 'View hidden files and folders', and the file seems to be in the folder './Program Files/postgresql/<version>/data'

That's very strange. Is everything installed on one computer - i.e. you don't have postgres installed on another computer on your network?

Are you using Vista?
Are you running PGAdmin as Administrator (like you do with PT3)?
ATTENTION: Windows VISTA users, you must read this...

It could also be a firewall issue although since PT3 is able to connect that is unlikely - what firewall do you use?

Its all on the same comp. Im running Vista and running as administrator.

I am running ZoneAlarm Extreme Security. I used to run Kaspersky, but changed because I couldnt get it to work with Postgressql / PT3. This is the first time i am experiencing problems after this change.

Just to clarify - are you launching PGAdmin as administrator? This is different to being logged in as an administrator.

I'll ask our postges expert to take a look at this and see if he can think of anything else.

The other posibility is that you might need to add an exception to your firewall to allow PGAdmin full access.

Please schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.
