Duplicate HH files

Postby MTPaid » Tue Sep 15, 2009 4:20 pm

I was just looking through the processed HH file for PT3 and noticed that for tournaments, there are duplicate and even triplicate files. Is there any special reason for this? Are they necessary because or are they just taking up space?
For example:
FT20090914 MiniFTOPS Event #11 (97435335), Table 45 - 6000-12000
FT20090914 MiniFTOPS Event #11 (97435335), Table 45 - 6000-12000_1
FT20090914 MiniFTOPS Event #11 (97435335), Table 45 - 6000-12000_2

All seem to be the same file.

Do the files have the same contents? If they really are truly identical then they certainly are not needed. If they have different hands from the same tournament then you can decide whether or not you'd like to keep them in the event you need to restore your database from hand histories.

They look like they are exactly the same, unless I am missing some minor detail. Seems to be all Full Tilt tournament HH files in triplicate. Doesn't look like there are more than 1 for Stars tournaments.

That's odd; you certainly don't need them then.

In the future: try shutting down FTP completely before stopping your auto importing and see if that cuts down on this sort of thing. It might be related to the fact that FTP locks the file until you've closed the table and restarted FTP.

Now I'm finding them for Stars too...
HH20090915 Alkeste III - $0.25-$0.50 - USD Pot Limit Omaha
HH20090915 Alkeste III - $0.25-$0.50 - USD Pot Limit Omaha_1

I mean maybe if there is something you can do for the next update on your end to help free up space on everyone's machine instead of users having to go in and manually delete each duplicate/triplicate file?

Are you sure the contents of the files are the same?
Normally you get these kind of files when you stop and restart auto import during the session.
PT3 only moves files when you stop auto import.

Given the file names I suspect that these files are being generated when you play at the same table more than once in the same day - the file names only have the date, table name and limit - there is no time information, so if you rejoin the same table later in the day after PT3 has moved the file from your first session a new file will be generated with the same filename.
When you stop auto import again next time and PT3 moves the second file it will find one already existing with the same name so it will append "_1" to avoid overwriting the previous file.

Please check the content of the files (in particular the times of the hands and hand numbers) and if they actually contain the same hands attach a few example files to a Support ticket so that we can investigate.

Definitely the same files. I see more what's happening after playing just a couple of minutes on Full Tilt just to test. It will import the hand and then I'll stop playing and stop the import. Everything looks fine. Then the next time I play, I'll start the import again and that's when the duplicates appear. It's definitely the same hands, same file sizes, and everything. While going through and deleting yesterday, I saw some files copied up to 5 or 6x with _5 after them. Will create a support ticket and send some referencing this thread.

Thanks, we'd appreciate it. There problem seems likely to me to be related to the fact that FTP locks files now if you stop the auto import while FTP is open. Could you try closing FTP completely first then stopping the auto import and see if that does fix things for you? (Please still create the support ticket even if it does though, so we can get it fixed, I'm just curious.)

Just created a triplicate "_2". Full Tilt client has been closed for over an hour.

That's very strange. Could you please reproduce this behavior while using PT3 opened with the Logging Enabled link, and then submit the log files to a support ticket? It would help us figure out exactly what is going on for you. (More about log files here if you need; the file we want is C:\Program Files\PokerTracker 3\PokerTracker.log)
