One point that hasn't come up yet here: if you had 8.3 you can't just uninstall then install 8.4 and have your database work because of the way that PostgreSQL changes between major version numbers (8.2 -> 8.3 -> 8.4, etc.). So you would need to reinstall 8.3 in that case.

Oh ok because i do have a database that I need to keep. Also, yeah I am almost positive I uninstalled it correctly.

So ill just uninstall this 8.4 and install and 8.3.x.

Is uninstalling 8.4 different from 8.3? I deleted the program in control panel and deleted the user account in user accounts. How can I check to see if i uninstalled properly?

If you are uninstalling 8.4 it should take care of everything you need; attempt to install 8.3 from the pgInstaller and it should work now.
